Official: PSSI Extends Shin Tae-yong's Contract until 2027

NEWS TOPIC:

NOBARTV.CO.ID PSSI extends Shin Tae-yong's contract. The happy news has just been announced by PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir. Erick via his social media account officially announced the extension of the coach's contract Shin Tae-yong.

Shin Tae-yong's contract with the Indonesian National Team was initially written until December 2023. This contract was suppressed when PSSI was still led by his predecessor, Mochamad Iriawan.

During his leadership, Iriawan said several times that his party (PSSI) would immediately give Shin Tae-yong a contract extension. Iriawan made these remarks when the Indonesian National Team won two trial matches against the Curacao National Team. However, at that time Shin was reluctant to take the plan seriously.

Until finally, PSSI changed leadership. Erick Thohir, who was previously known as the former President of Inter Milan, finally officially took over as General Chair of PSSI. With his experience at club level and other management knowledge, Erick has a different point of view regarding Shin Tae-yong's 'contract'. Instead of making an offer to the South Korean coach, Erick actually gave him a target. The target is to bring the two age groups of the national team to qualify for two different tournaments. The first is the 2023 Asian Cup and the second is the 23 U2024 Asian Cup.

Therefore, when Shin's contract period was about to end near December 2023, Erick took the initiative to give Shin a temporary contract extension. The temporary contract only lasts for a few months until the end of the 23 U2024 Asian Cup event. In his short contract, Shin, as mentioned earlier, was given two absolute targets by PSSI.

Surprisingly, one by one, Shin Tae-yong was able to fulfill these targets. At the 2023 Asian Cup which was held last January, Shin succeeded in bringing his team through to the round of 16 even though they lost in that match.

This surprise occurred again at the 23 U2024 Asian Cup which is currently taking place. Ranked second in the final standings of Group A with a record of two wins, Shin once again brought his team through to the knock-out phase, aka the quarter-finals. And in the quarter-finals, Shin and his team will meet the South Korean National Team.

Considering that he has fulfilled these two targets, it is appropriate for PSSI to announce the coach's new contract as soon as possible. And the good news, ahead of the duel against South Korea in the quarter-finals, Erick Thohir provided definite certainty regarding Shin Tae-yong's contract.

Via his social media account, Erick announced Shin's contract renewal. The man who also serves as Minister of BUMN said that PSSI had given STY a new contract until 2027. This means that he will continue his service to the Indonesian National Team for the next three years.

"After enjoying typical Korean food and discussing the Indonesian national team program until 2027, coach Shin Tae-yong and I agreed to continue working together," wrote Erick Thohir on his social media.
