Erick Thohir Warns Riot Perpetrators: Believe Me, FIFA Will Stop Indonesian Football!

NEWS TOPIC:

NOBARTV NEWS – Erick Thohir issued a warning to anyone who frequently commits acts of unrest in Indonesian football. Erick said, if this happens again, FIFA will not hesitate to stop Indonesian football.

As is known, last year, in an Indonesian League match, one of the biggest riots in the history of world football occurred. The riot is known as the Kanjuruhan Tragedy. According to the location, the incident occurred at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, East Java.

The riots that caused hundreds of deaths started with the influx of home fans Arema FC when their team was defeated by rivals Persebaya Surabaya 2-3. The entry of several individuals was followed by other supporters. Riots were inevitable because several individuals carried out anarchic acts in the stadium. They set fire to and damaged stadium facilities – prompting security forces to throw tear gas.

As a result of the tear gas, other supporters were also affected. They then ran for their lives to get out of the stadium. Unfortunately, in the process of saving themselves, they ran to fight for the exit – which resulted in mutual trampling between fellow spectators. As a result, hundreds of people died.

This large number of fatalities is said to be the reason FIFA canceled the hosting status of the Cambodian National Team in 2023. In the months since the tragedy, PSSI is considered to have not yet completely transformed Indonesian football. On this basis, PSSI did not receive financial assistance from the World Football Federation.

Therefore, as early as possible, before the 1-2023 League 2024 season opens, PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir has given this message. Erick warned everyone - anyone who often commits acts of rioting - to stop doing so. Because the movements of Indonesian football have been closely watched by FIFA since the Kanjuruhan tragedy broke out. This was conveyed by Erick yesterday.

"Remember, the Kanjuruhan incident is still in FIFA's records," said Erick Thohir.

However, Erick also expressed his gratitude because the cancellation of Indonesia's hosting status in the U-20 World Cup yesterday had no effect on its continuity. and League 1 itself.

"We are lucky that we were only given light sanctions so we can still hold international matches, FIFA matchdays and competitions," he added.

"However, if there are riots, like at the end of last season, believe me FIFA will stop Indonesian football. "Don't be a nation that forgets, because FIFA has not forgotten," he concluded.
